Are Business Cards Still Relevant?

With the uprising of apps, websites, and digital content, it isn’t uncommon to ask whether the need for print truly exists. You may be thinking Well, you’re a print company, so of course you’re going to say print is still relevant. At O’Neil, we do have a strong bias towards print. We’re old souls at heart with a love for a paper in our hands. But the best news is we’re not the only ones. Today we are answering the question, “Are business cards still relevant?”.

We recently wrote a blog post on 5 print myths, and the first myth is “print is dying.” You can read more about it here, but the general idea is that print is being reinvented. How print is being used in business is changing. While business cards were crucial 10 years ago, they have become less relevant now. Yes, we said it!

Do I still need business cards?

To answer that question, we ask another question. What type of business are you in? While business cards are not necessary in every industry, they are still very much alive in others. In most corporate settings, business cards are a form of introduction and can help you gain business later on. Most people you meet will forget your name and your company. It’s a fact.

A business card ensures you will not be forgotten, and if you are, there’s a little piece of paper that will remind them. It’s that simple. Business cards are reminders for communication later on.

How is the business card being reinvented?

Ten years ago, putting your name and your phone number on a card would suffice. Now, no one really cares unless you include your name, email, number, and in most cases, your social media accounts. This is especially true for small businesses with a portfolio of some kind. You want your clients to see your work quickly, so they can make a decision whether they want to remember you (follow on social) or if they would like to move on. This updated contact information keeps business cards still relevant!

There are so many unique designs and graphics out there that if your business card is plain, it may get overlooked. A business card that is die-cut and engaging is the new way to introduce yourself. Read more about our die-cut services here! Another option to making your business card stand out is through embossing or debossing. Oh, and don’t forget about our foil printing services as well!

With so many different imprinting methods to make your cards stand out, you have no excuses for the plain white 2×4 cards. Contact us today for more information on print stationary for your business!
