Digital vs. Offset Printing: A Simple Guide
Digital vs. Offset: Which process is better for your print project? If you’re unsure, look no further. We’ve laid out some quick advantages and applications to help you make an educated decision for your print project. Let’s start with digital printing:
– Good for low quantity projects
– Variable data capability / Personalization
– Clear raised ink capabilities
– Faster project turn time
– Direct mail
– Greeting cards
Additionally, digital printing is a good option for lower quantity projects produced on a wide range of paper options. For example, if you wanted to create a small run of invitations, posters, newsletters, or cards that utilize special ink effects, digital printing is the right option for you. – Good for high quantity projects
– High quality and detail
– Custom inks
– Custom envelopes
Offset printing tends to be a good option for projects with a quantity in the thousands. Also, a project that requires a high level of quality and detail, and/or requires custom ink, can be completed better with offset printing. Because these projects have a longer time on press, plan accordingly. Compared to digital printing, offset printing does not allow the same variable data capabilities. However, offset printing will probably be the most cost effective option if you have a big project that requires high quantity, special inks, press checks, and lots of attention all around.
