Eco-Friendly Printing: Options For Your Print Materials

As a commercial printer, we understand how important it is to limit the amount of waste put back into our environments. Without being intentional, it is easy to ignore our responsibility as humans to preserve our planet. We believe it is not only important to create practices around sustainability, but we also believe it is crucial to educate those around us about eco-friendly printing.

At O’Neil, we offer planet-saving options to our clients, such our FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper that contains 100% post-consumer recycled content. This type of paper saves trees, water, and limits waste.

In part to eliminate chemical and film waste, our entire prepress department is digital. Once the printing plates are created via our digital process, we make sure they are recycled.

What about our ink?

We are proud to say that everything at O’Neil is printed using Toyo HyPlus 100 series process inks. They are virtually VOC (Volatile organic compounds) free, containing no petroleum oil or solvents. Fact: When VOCs are released into the air, they can greatly contribute to the breaking down of the ozone.

For many clients, we send proofs digitally, which eliminates the waste of printing before the final run. We’ve taken several steps in our print process to ensure our clients can be confident in our commitment to being a sustainable and eco-friendly printing company.

More fun ways we go green!

Throughout our facility, we have several recycling stations. We also recycle all excess production waste, including paper, corrugated materials, and printing plates. We even capture, treat, and re-use the chemicals in our printing process.

O’Neil uses low voltage fluorescent lighting throughout the shop and disposes of them in specially manufactured boxes that will prevent mercury leakage should a bulb break.

35% of O’Neil’s employees used alternative transportation to and from work. This includes carpooling, ridesharing, public transportation, alternative fuel vehicles, and bicycling. O’Neil also offers incentives to its employees who “ride green!”
