Pantone: Why we care about the Color of the Year
Each year, the print and digital media industry patiently awaits the announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year. Pantone is responsible for the Pantone Matching System (PMS), which provides a universal system for identifying colors across the life of projects from design to manufacturing to the consumer.
“More than 10 million designers and producers around the world rely on Pantone products and services to help define, communicate and control color from inspiration to realization” – Pantone.com
The PMS was developed in 1963 and has remained a staple system for the print and digital industry. With 55 years of experience with color matching, it’s safe to say Pantone is the leader of color trends.
Each year, they announce the Color of the Year. This predictably becomes the most influential color throughout the year it is announced.
As soon as the color is announced, it becomes the trendiest color. You’ll see it as paint on walls, clothing, graphics, print materials, and everything else imaginable.
