Couponing Made Cool: How to Design a Unique Coupon
It’s a well-known fact that people love discounts and free items. Each day, mailboxes are filled with coupons and special offers, but how often do they actually get used? When the coupons look like all the other mail, lacking a unique coupon design, who wants to riffle through them and find the actual good offers?
Does that mean a business shouldn’t offer discounts or promotions? Absolutely not. Coupons are an effective way to get customers to learn about your business if they haven’t already before. The trick is to create a coupon that stands out among the pile of papers.
We have had the opportunity to print different types of coupons, and we wanted to share some ideas on how to make yours stand out.
Shape
The shape of a coupon is what will help it not end up in a pile of other items. Your unique coupon design would be placed on top of a mail pile as people tend to put unique shaped items that don’t fit on the top. The shape of the item will also cause someone to be intrigued and read it more intently.
We offer specialty die cut services to create unique shaped items for your business. Our favorite idea is to shape it into your product. Another idea is to shape it into a reusable item such as a bookmark or coaster.
Color
Coupons get more attention when they have vibrant colors and contrasting details. If the coupon is simply black and white, it has a higher chance of getting ignored or forgotten about. Coupons with bright colors are exciting and great reminders about your business to the buyer.
Well-branded
As any other print material, a coupon should be branded to match the company. We suggest including the company logo and brand colors to create brand recognition.
Attention grabbing copy
It is important to be clear about what is being offered on the coupon. Avoid using confusing terminology that would cause the buyer to be unsure of what discount they would receive. Use bright and bold text to attract attention from your audience. Create urgency around the deal, such as “this weekend only” or “two-days only sale!”
Personalization
Advertising can be expensive, so why spend money on the wrong audience? With our variable printing, we can personalize the coupon and direct mail to the people who actually want your product or service.
